Né en 1593 en Moselle, Georges de La Tour est un peintre majeur du XVIIe siècle. On ne connaît qu’une quarantaine de ses œuvres originales, aujourd’hui dispersées dans le monde. L’exposition Entre ombre et lumière propose une redécouverte de son travail, encore entouré de mystères. Une trentaine de peintures et dessins y sont présentés, mettant en valeur ses thèmes favoris : scènes religieuses, musiciens aveugles, jeux, et intérieurs éclairés à la chandelle. Parmi les pièces phares, une mère berçant son enfant illustre sa façon de sublimer les gestes du quotidien. C’est la première grande exposition sur lui depuis celle du Grand Palais en 1997.
